When I walk through a gallery and come across a painting with a bunch of words I reflexively say “words” and keep moving. It’s a reaction to an attempt at subverting the visual space with communication best left elsewhere. I met a prominent curator that skipped from institution to institution heading up visual arts organizations. They told me that they only liked paintings that had words on the surfaces. I backed away and realized the extent of dispassion that has consumed the art world.
